2027 Elections: I Won’t Return to the Villa, I’ll Campaign with Remi Tinubu – Patience Jonathan

Former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan has declared her unwavering support for First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, stating firmly that she has no interest in returning to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

Speaking at an award ceremony in Abuja where she was named Women Icon Leader of the Year 2025 by Accolade Dynamics Ltd., Jonathan stressed her commitment to rotational leadership, describing it as crucial for national unity.

“I believe in turn-by-turn. When it’s your turn, I support you. When it’s not, step aside so Nigeria can move forward,” she said.

She also ruled out a political comeback, joking: “Even if you call me, I won’t go back. I enjoy peace of mind now.”

Jonathan praised Remi Tinubu, recalling their long-standing friendship since their days as wives of political office holders. “She supported me during our 2011 campaign. I can’t abandon my friend,” she added.

Addressing gender equity, she renewed the call for 35% affirmative action for women and condemned the National Assembly’s rejection of gender equality bills. “We are mothers and partners, not threats,” she asserted.

Jonathan’s philanthropic work through the Aurora Richard Foundation and Women for Change Initiative was also highlighted for its impact on women’s health and youth empowerment.

Accolade Dynamics CEO, Ms. Dofan Chizaram, described the event as a celebration of transformative African leadership: “We honour those uplifting communities and mentoring others. They deserve their flowers now.”
