78 Trafficked Nigerians Repatriated from Côte d’Ivoire, Received in Lagos

A total of 78 Nigerian nationals, identified as victims of human trafficking, have been successfully repatriated from Côte d’Ivoire and arrived in Lagos over the weekend.

The returnees were received at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport by officials from the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

According to NAPTIP, the group comprises men, women, and young persons who were rescued from exploitative conditions. The agency assured that the victims will be provided with immediate care, including medical evaluations, psychosocial support, and assistance with reintegration into their communities.

The repatriation is part of the Nigerian government’s broader efforts to combat human trafficking and support citizens trapped in vulnerable situations abroad. Authorities also confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify and dismantle the trafficking networks responsible.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation to the Nigerian mission in Côte d’Ivoire and international partners for their coordination and support in facilitating the return.
