The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has matriculated newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students for the 2025/2026 academic session, with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and training.
The matriculation ceremony, witnessed a total of 6,821 students 6,000 undergraduates and 821 postgraduates taking the matriculation oath.

Addressing the matriculants, Prof. Oladiji described their admission as the outcome of a rigorous and highly competitive selection process, noting that it was a clear affirmation of their academic potential. She explained that postgraduate admissions were based on candidates’ eligibility and the availability of supervisors, while undergraduate admissions followed approved quotas and eligibility criteria across the university’s programmes.
According to her, more than 20,000 candidates applied for admission into FUTA for the academic session, with only about 6,000 securing undergraduate places. She added that nearly half of the applicants were screened out, urging the successful candidates to recognise how privileged they were to be admitted.
The vice-chancellor warned the students against engaging in activities capable of undermining their academic pursuits and future careers, stressing that FUTA maintains a disciplined academic culture and zero tolerance for misconduct. She listed examination malpractice, plagiarism, cultism, sexual harassment, indecent dressing, cybercrime, drug abuse, and other antisocial behaviours as offences that attract severe sanctions.

She noted that by taking the matriculation oath, the students had entered into a solemn covenant with the institution to pursue knowledge with integrity, maintain discipline, and conduct themselves in a manner worthy of the university. Prof. Oladiji also advised the students to use the internet responsibly and avoid actions that could bring the institution into disrepute, warning that the university would act decisively against any form of misconduct.
Prof. Oladiji assured the students of a conducive and enabling academic environment, particularly for postgraduate studies. She said the university was implementing measures to ensure hitch-free postgraduate programmes and to reduce cases of dropout and programme abandonment. Describing excellence as a continuous journey rather than a destination, she added that the institution remains committed to constant improvement through the collective efforts of all stakeholders.

She further told the matriculants that they could not have chosen a better institution for their academic pursuits, describing FUTA as a university established with a clear vision to serve as a centre of excellence in technological education, research, and innovation. On behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, management, staff, and students, she congratulated the newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Highlighting the institution’s achievements, the vice-chancellor said FUTA is a research-intensive university with a strong pool of human resources, including nearly 300 professors across diverse disciplines, as well as a well-equipped central laboratory dedicated to cutting-edge research in science and technology. She added that the university maintains robust academic collaborations and linkages with reputable institutions within and outside Nigeria, as well as government agencies, which have continued to enhance its global visibility.

Prof. Oladiji urged the students to familiarise themselves with the university’s rules and regulations and to seek guidance from experienced academics and administrators whenever necessary, while wishing them a successful academic journey.
