Adelabu Assures Steady Power Supply to Military Bases, Says President Has Issued Clear Directive

The Federal Government has pledged to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to military bases across the country, in a move aimed at strengthening national security and boosting the operational capacity of the Armed Forces.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, gave the assurance when he received the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, and his delegation during a courtesy visit to the Ministry in Abuja.

Adelabu revealed that President Bola Tinubu has given a clear directive for power supply to military installations to be treated as a top priority, describing reliable electricity as critical to securing military infrastructure and safeguarding national assets.

He acknowledged challenges inherited by the Ministry, including outdated infrastructure and incomplete metering projects dating back to 2003, but added that fresh momentum is being injected into the process, with renewed contracts and coordinated efforts with electricity distribution companies (DisCos) already underway.

“We are currently engaging DisCos across the six geopolitical zones to find lasting solutions to power instability, especially in strategic military locations,” Adelabu said.

In his remarks, Air Marshal Abubakar commended the Minister for his efforts at reforming the power sector and highlighted the strategic role electricity plays in military operations. He raised concerns about illegal encroachment on dedicated transmission lines and unresolved billing disputes, particularly with Ikeja DisCo.

The Air Chief also expressed the Nigerian Air Force’s willingness to collaborate closely with the Ministry in implementing sustainable energy alternatives and protecting power infrastructure.

The visit signals a renewed synergy between the Ministry of Power and the Armed Forces—one aimed at securing energy reliability and enhancing Nigeria’s defence architecture.
