The Governing Council of Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, has announced the appointment of Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola as the institution’s first substantive Vice Chancellor.
Professor Popoola, a seasoned academic and administrator, hails from Ikere-Ekiti in Ekiti State. He is currently a Professor of Education (Guidance and Counselling) at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The 62-year-old began his academic journey with a degree in English/Education from the then Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University) in 1987. He went on to obtain a Master’s and a PhD in Guidance and Counselling from OAU in 1995 and 2003, respectively.
Over the years, Popoola has held several leadership roles at OAU, including Head of Department, Deputy Provost of the Postgraduate College, and Dean of the Faculty of Education.
Beyond the university system, he has served on the National Examination Council’s School Accreditation Team and worked as a research consultant to UNICEF, the International Organisation for Migration, and the Federal Ministry of Education. He also served on the Governing Council of the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria.
Popoola has over 67 academic publications, has presented at 16 international and 34 local conferences, and supervised more than 27 postgraduate theses. He is also an external examiner and assessor for several universities in and outside Nigeria.
He belongs to several professional bodies, including the Counselling Association of Nigeria, Association of Professional Counsellors in Nigeria, Association of Educational Researchers and Evaluators of Nigeria, and the American Psychological Association.
Professor Popoola is married to Dr. (Mrs.) Temilola Popoola and they are blessed with four children.
