AIYEDATIWA COMMISSIONS ROADS, WATER PROJECTS TO MARK FIRST ANNIVERSARY

The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Thursday inaugurated several road and water projects in Akure, as part of activities marking his administration’s first year in office.

Among the projects commissioned were Igoba Township Road and Alagbaka Extension Road, both located within the state capital.

Speaking at the event, the governor described the projects as key to improving connectivity, boosting trade, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

He said the developments reflected his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy through impactful infrastructure.

Aiyedatiwa noted that Igoba Road, in particular, plays a critical role in linking communities and supporting economic activities, adding that it represents the broader vision of his government’s infrastructural drive.

The governor also highlighted achievements recorded across sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and security within the past year.

According to him, farmers and small-scale businesses have received support, while strategic investments in infrastructure have laid a solid foundation for economic growth.

He explained that the projects align with his administration’s OUR EASE agenda, which focuses on job creation, improved living standards, and inclusive development.

While inaugurating the Alagbaka Extension Road, Aiyedatiwa said the project would ease traffic congestion and improve access within the area, including routes leading to the Akure Airport.

He added that the road was constructed to standard specifications to ensure durability and long-term use.

Also commissioned was the Omi Irorun O’Datiwa Water Scheme located at the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Akure.

Represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, the governor said the project was executed by the state government despite the hospital being under federal control, noting that it was done in the interest of the people.

He stated that the water project would improve healthcare delivery, promote hygiene, and reduce the risk of water-related diseases.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Abiola Olawoye, said the administration had fulfilled its promise to prioritise road construction and rehabilitation.

He described Igoba as a rapidly growing community, adding that the newly constructed 5.5-kilometre road would enhance socio-economic activities in the area.

Olawoye also listed ongoing projects, including Oke-T Road, Okitipupa–Igbokoda Road, Imafo Road, and Akungba Road, as part of the state’s continued infrastructure expansion.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene, Ayodele Akande, said the water scheme would provide clean water to thousands of residents.

He disclosed that the facility is powered by a hybrid solar system and is capable of supplying about 150 cubic metres of water daily.

Akande added that over 50 boreholes had been constructed across the state within the past year, increasing access to clean water significantly.

Community leaders at the event commended the governor for fulfilling his promises.

The Chairman of Akure North Local Government, Johnson Ogunbolude, praised the administration for improving road infrastructure in Igoba, while the Obaloogun of Igoba, Oba John Adeniyi Adinlewa, lauded the governor for responding to the community’s long-standing request.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Alagbaka Extension Landlords Association, Fred Ojo, said the project had transformed the area and improved accessibility.

The governor, through his deputy, also inaugurated Adegbola Health Centre in Akure and Surulere Health Centre in Ondo town.
