Anxiety as Psychiatric Patients Escape from Ondo Hospital

AKURE — Residents of Oda Town, Akure, Ondo State, are gripped with anxiety following the escape of no fewer than nine psychiatric patients from the Neuropsychiatric Specialist Hospital located along Oda Road, beside the School of Health Technology. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, has raised serious concerns about the security measures at the facility.

According to reports, the patients fled the hospital under circumstances that are yet to be fully clarified. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as hospital staff scrambled to manage the situation.

A staff member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed concern, stating, “We are doing our best, but the safety of both patients and staff is paramount. This incident highlights the urgent need for improved security measures.”

Efforts are currently underway to locate and safely return the escaped patients to the hospital.

As of the time of filing this report, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Professor Simidele Odimayo, could not be reached for comment.
