BANDITS KILL ONDO MONARCH

The traditional ruler of Agamọ community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Kehinde Falodun, has been killed by suspected bandits, in what residents describe as a troubling escalation of insecurity in the area.

Sources within the community said the attackers, numbering about ten, invaded the monarch’s residence on Wednesday evening in an attempt to abduct him. The royal father was said to have resisted the abduction, prompting the assailants to attack him.

Witness accounts indicate that although gunshots were fired, the attackers eventually inflicted fatal injuries on the monarch using a heavy object.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that security operatives had launched an investigation and intensified efforts to apprehend those responsible.

The police spokesperson in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, said tactical teams, in collaboration with local security groups including Amotekun operatives, hunters, and vigilance personnel, had been deployed to comb surrounding areas.

He assured residents that surveillance had been strengthened and that authorities were committed to ensuring justice and restoring calm.

The killing comes amid growing concerns over security in Akure North, following recent incidents of abduction in nearby communities. In one such case, a pregnant woman was reportedly kidnapped and later released after a ransom was paid.

Security operatives had also, in recent weeks, arrested several suspects linked to banditry in the area.

Residents are now calling for stronger and sustained security presence to curb the rising wave of attacks and safeguard lives and property.
