CDS Pledges Boosted Military Operations Against Insurgency, Assures of New Platforms

Maiduguri, Borno State – The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to decisively end the lingering insurgency in the North-East region.

During an operational visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command Joint Task Force North-East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in Maiduguri on Thursday, May 15, 2025, General Musa pledged enhanced military operations, including the injection of new platforms and combat enablers to bolster the effectiveness of troops in the theatre.

Addressing troops after receiving a detailed operational briefing from the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the CDS charged officers and men to intensify their efforts with renewed aggression against Boko Haram terrorists. He emphasized that the nation looked up to the military as its last line of defence, urging troops to remain tenacious and resilient.

“The military remains unwavering in its resolve to restore peace and stability in the region. More platforms and operational assets will be deployed to strengthen our combat capabilities,” the CDS stated.

Major General Abubakar, while welcoming the CDS, expressed gratitude for the high-level visit, describing it as a testament to the leadership’s commitment to the ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

Prior to his visit to the Theatre Command, General Musa toured the site of a recent explosion at Giwa Barracks, where he was briefed by Brigadier General Abdul-Razak Kazeem, Commander of the 47 Engineers Brigade. The CDS commended the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel for their swift response and professionalism in securing the area.

He encouraged them to sustain their discipline and operational focus, assuring them of the necessary support to carry out their duties effectively.

The CDS was accompanied by Principal Staff Officers from the Defence and Service Headquarters, highlighting the spirit of jointness and inter-agency collaboration in the military’s approach to tackling insurgency.
