CHRISTOPHER MUSA PLEDGES SATELLITE-POWERED SUPPORT FOR TROOPS ON THE FRONTLINE

Nigeria’s defence architecture is set for a boost as the Federal Government moves to deepen collaboration between the Ministry of Defence and the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) to strengthen security operations through space technology.

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, disclosed this in Abuja while hosting a delegation from NASRDA led by its Director-General, Matthew Adepoju, during a working visit to the ministry’s headquarters.

Musa emphasised that Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, banditry and cross-border crimes requires intelligence-led strategies, noting that satellite surveillance, radar imaging and signal analysis could significantly improve troop operations and tracking of criminal networks.

He also called for closer coordination between NASRDA and the Defence Space Administration to ensure effective deployment of space-based tools in military operations.

Speaking earlier, Adepoju said Nigeria is strengthening its space capabilities through strategic global partnerships. He revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved steps toward acquiring additional satellites, including radar systems, to enhance the country’s security framework.

According to him, the agency has developed proposals aimed at boosting border monitoring and providing real-time intelligence to support security agencies.
