EFCC VOWS TO PROSECUTE FAKE DRUG DEALERS — CHAIRMAN

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said the Commission is fully empowered to go after individuals whose actions constitute economic sabotage, including those vandalising oil pipelines and circulating counterfeit products.

During a visit by the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the EFCC chairman stated that the Commission’s mandate covers a broad range of offences beyond money laundering and fraud.

“Our job is not limited to people who steal public funds. Anyone who exploits loopholes in our laws and regulations for financial gain falls within our scope. If you burst oil pipelines or deal in fake drugs, we can investigate and prosecute — that’s economic sabotage,” he said.

He further explained that while regulatory agencies like NAFDAC may face limitations in enforcement, the EFCC has the legal authority to step in wherever financial motives are detected.

“Once there’s pecuniary gain involved, we have the power to act. We are ready to support your agency in strengthening compliance and enforcement,” he added.

On her part, Prof. Adeyeye said the visit was aimed at fostering stronger collaboration between both agencies, especially in tackling corruption and harmful practices that affect public health and economic integrity.
