The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is facing disruptions as its employees, under the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), have officially embarked on a strike.
The industrial action follows the expiration of the union’s ultimatum to TCN management over lingering staff welfare and operational grievances.
In a statement, Acting General Secretary of NUEE, Dominic Igwebike, listed the workers’ demands to include the full implementation of the National Minimum Wage, an end to casualisation of staff, and the provision of essential working tools and materials.
Other factors cited for the strike include the lack of operational vehicles, inadequate provision of personal protective equipment (PPE), challenges arising from the unbundling of TCN, and outstanding retirement benefits.
The union has vowed to maintain the work stoppage until TCN management addresses all the outstanding issues.
