The Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University, Professor Philip Oguntunde, has announced plans to expand the institution’s research collaborations to six countries, aiming to advance solutions aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Professor Oguntunde made the disclosure while receiving a delegation from the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), during a courtesy visit. He described the visit as a “show of goodwill” and said the university is exploring partnerships with institutions in Spain, Germany, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, and others.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the renewed research drive is focused on tackling critical local and global challenges within the SDGs’ framework. He stressed that collaboration between institutions is vital for delivering sustainable solutions to pressing societal issues.
Professor Oguntunde also called for deeper research partnerships with FUTA, saying joint efforts would boost innovation, knowledge sharing, and community development.
Leading the FUTA team, Professor Richard Falayi, Head of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, described Professor Oguntunde as a “renowned scholar” whose influence continues to resonate across academia. He said the visit reaffirmed FUTA’s full support for the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership.
In a related development, seven Heads of Departments from FUTA’s School of Infrastructure, Minerals and Manufacturing Engineering, led by former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Aremu Akintunde, also visited Elizade University. They pledged support for teaching, research, and community service initiatives.
Professor Akintunde praised Professor Oguntunde as “a valuable brand” and noted that both institutions stand to gain from strengthened collaboration for societal impact.

The engagements mark a new chapter in Elizade University’s research and academic partnerships, positioning the institution as a rising hub for impactful and globally connected scholarship.
