Hon. Sunday Erukubami, a leading aspirant for the Ondo State House of Assembly seat for Ilaje Constituency 1, has projected himself as one of the most deeply rooted contenders in the race, leveraging extensive ancestral, marital, religious, and cultural ties across the constituency.
In a post via his verified Facebook page, branding his aspiration under the banner Omo-Ule 2027, Mr Erukubami emphasised that his political ambition is anchored on a strong sense of belonging, familiarity with local realities, and a lifelong connection to the people of Ilaje.
An assessment of his background shows that his roots span all six Ugbo zones that make up Ilaje Constituency 1. In Ugbo 1, he traces his lineage to Eruna–Oyetomi. Ugbo 2 reflects multiple layers of connection, including Alagbon–Ogede, Ugbonla through religious affiliation, and Idi-Ogba through marriage into the Ajimuda family.

In Ugbo 3, the aspirant identifies ancestral links with Oroto–Orisamoluwa and Ilepete–Ofedegbe/Dede, while Ugbo 4 connects him to Obe-Nla–Kulajolu and Ogbaro, the hometown of his father-in-law.
Ugbo 5 further reinforces his family history, with Ikorigho linked to both his father, Kenro, and his grandmother, Ayerin. The area also includes Odonla, regarded as the seat of Alagho, as well as Ilu-Abo. Ugbo 6 completes the map of his constituency-wide ties through Awoye.
Political analysts say Mr Erukubami’s widespread roots distinguish him in a constituency where representation is often measured by proximity, trust, and shared history.
Running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Erukubami describes himself as tested, trusted, and prepared to provide inclusive leadership that reflects the collective interests of riverine and coastal communities.
“I really mean well for Ilaje Constituency 1,” Mr Erukubami said, stressing that his understanding of the constituency’s diversity positions him to effectively articulate its needs at the state assembly.

As political activities ahead of the 2027 elections begin to take shape, Mr Erukubami’s strategy of projecting unity, belonging, and grassroots legitimacy is expected to resonate with voters across Ilaje Constituency 1.
