The Federal Government has rolled out a revised curriculum for basic, senior secondary and technical education, promising a shift from content overload to practical, future-driven learning.
The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad, who made the announcement on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the overhaul was done in partnership with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) and other education agencies, including UBEC, NSSEC and NBTE.
According to her, the new structure trims subjects across levels while prioritising quality and deeper understanding. Pupils in Primary 1–3 will now offer between 9 and 10 subjects, while those in Primary 4–6 will take 10–12. Junior Secondary School learners are expected to handle 12–14 subjects, Senior Secondary 8–9, and technical schools 9–11.
Ahmad explained that the initiative seeks to give students more room to engage meaningfully with what they are taught, while ensuring the system remains relevant to present-day realities.
She applauded the stakeholders who contributed to the review and assured that its rollout will be closely monitored nationwide to ensure effective implementation.
