The Federal Government has constituted a 12-member committee to manage a 753-unit housing estate in Abuja, which was recently recovered from the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, inaugurated the committee following the handover of the estate by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in line with a directive from President Bola Tinubu.
Dangiwa stated that the decision is in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda to provide secure and affordable housing for Nigerians. He said the recovered estate will be put to proper use for the benefit of the people.
The committee, which is chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore, has been tasked with assessing the current condition of the estate, identifying necessary infrastructural improvements, and recommending a fair and transparent method for allocation.
According to the minister, the committee is expected to submit a preliminary report within four weeks.
