The Federal Government has announced plans to recruit 37,000 women and youths across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of a national initiative to boost commercial livestock production.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, during a workshop held to strategize on the effective implementation of the Presidential Initiative on Youth and Women in Livestock Development.
According to the minister, the initiative is aimed at enhancing food security, creating jobs, and empowering vulnerable groups by integrating them into the livestock value chain.
“The recruitment of 37,000 beneficiaries is a deliberate step towards expanding opportunities in livestock production and ensuring inclusive economic growth,” Maiha stated.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders in agriculture, youth development, and livestock production to develop actionable plans for rolling out the initiative successfully.
The move is seen as a significant boost to the livestock sector, aligning with the federal government’s broader agenda of economic diversification and rural empowerment.
