Following the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, the North-Central APC Forum has renewed its agitation for the position to return to the region.
Chairman of the Forum and member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, described Ganduje’s resignation as an opportunity for the party to correct what he termed “a longstanding injustice” against the North-Central zone.
Zazzaga recalled that the position was originally zoned to the region and should have remained there to complete the tenure of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who stepped down in 2023. According to him, the group had pursued the matter legally but temporarily shelved the agitation after the party’s National Executive Committee ratified Ganduje’s appointment in the interest of party unity.
“With Ganduje stepping down, the APC now has a golden chance to return the chairmanship to the North-Central,” he said. “It is a matter of fairness and equity. The region played a vital role in securing victory for the party during the 2023 elections and should not be relegated.”
He stressed that the zone is home to capable leaders who can strengthen the party and lead it to greater electoral gains.
“This demand is not driven by emotion but by the need to consolidate justice, party balance, and stability,” Zazzaga added.
