Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has praised the Olubaka of Oka-Akoko, Oba (Dr.) Yussuf Adebori Adeleye, OON, JP, for his role in promoting peace and stability across the state.
The Governor made the remarks on Saturday during the monarch’s elevation into the prestigious Traditional Elders Council (Ihare) at his palace. The ceremony also saw the elevation of the Egbe Mabolaje of Ibaka Oka.
Describing the event as historic and symbolic, Governor Aiyedatiwa said Oba Adeleye’s inclusion in the Ihare Council reflected his wisdom, integrity, and unblemished service to his people.
“Ihare is reserved for individuals of exceptional character and influence,” the Governor said, noting that the Olubaka’s peaceful and progressive reign made the honour well-deserved.
He extended his congratulations to Oka sons and daughters at home and abroad, commending age-grade institutions as vital custodians of unity and traditional discipline.

Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated that his administration would continue to uphold the dignity and relevance of monarchs, emphasizing their role as partners in security, conflict mediation, and community stability. He further credited their wisdom and prayers for the state’s sustained peace and prosperity.
The Governor also felicitated with Oba Adeleye on his 82nd birthday, which coincided with this year’s Ihare festival, describing the monarch’s life as embodying wisdom, dignity, and devotion to his people.
Highlighting the Olubaka’s contributions, the Governor noted his pioneering roles as a member of the National Council of Traditional Rulers, former Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, and pioneer Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, which he said advanced both state and national development.
In his address, Oba Adeleye described the Ihare elevation as a sacred transition, rooted in age, wisdom, resilience, and survival. He explained that the walking sticks presented to celebrants symbolise endurance and wisdom, not weakness.
The monarch also emphasized the importance of age-grade institutions in Yoruba land, calling them moral compasses, law enforcers, and community builders, particularly during times when formal state structures were weak.
Speaking for those honoured with chieftaincy titles, the Yeye Aare Arimuyangan of Oka Land, Senator Jackson Bent, commended the Olubaka and urged continued support for the Governor’s developmental vision.

The Special Adviser on Transport, Akogun Olugbenga Omole, expressed gratitude to the Governor, the monarch, and the people of Oka for ensuring the success of the event.
