Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has inaugurated the newly completed headquarters of the Local Government Service Commission in Calabar, urging public servants to uphold accountability and improve productivity in their duties.
At the commissioning ceremony, the governor reiterated his administration’s determination to complete all inherited projects, revealing that nearly 40 percent of previously stalled projects have now been completed, with many others in progress.

He emphasized his commitment to driving sustainable development across the state while also prioritizing the welfare of civil servants and restoring confidence in the public service.
“We will continue to play our part as a responsible government. But we also expect you, the workforce, to rise to the occasion. Let our efforts motivate you to be more committed and productive,” Otu said.
The governor also disclosed ongoing efforts to ensure prompt payment of gratuities, ideally within one week of retirement. However, he noted that the lingering issue of ghost workers remains a major obstacle.
“We are working toward ensuring that gratuities are paid within one week of retirement, but the persistent issue of ghost workers continues to hinder our progress,” he added.
