Katsina, Nigeria — In a bid to strengthen the ongoing transformation within Nigeria’s civil service, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has urged federal civil servants to fully embrace the EPIC reforms—Efficient, Productive, Incorruptible, and Citizen-Centred.
Mrs. Walson-Jack made this call while addressing staff at the Federal Secretariat in Katsina, during her visit to the state for a strategic retreat with Heads of Service from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The visit, which marks the first by a sitting HCSF to the Katsina Secretariat complex, was aimed at engaging directly with workers and reinforcing the core values of the ongoing reform agenda. According to a statement issued by Mrs. Eno Olotu, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the HCSF, the engagement forms part of broader efforts to inspire a professional, responsive, and digitally driven civil service.
“The EPIC values are not just words; they are a way of life that will reposition our service to deliver with excellence and integrity,” Walson-Jack said. “When we adopt these values, we reaffirm our commitment to serve Nigeria with honour and distinction.”
She commended the dedication of civil servants in Katsina, referring to them as the “quiet force powering Nigeria forward,” and stressed that the nationwide inspection of Federal Secretariats is a strategic component of the reform process aimed at improving workplace standards and staff welfare.
The HCSF also spotlighted digital transformation as a key pillar of the reform agenda, encouraging workers to maximize the use of new digital tools such as Service-Wise GPT, the Online Compendium of Circulars, the Civil Service News Portal, and the Online Learning Academy. These platforms, she noted, are designed to improve operational efficiency and service delivery across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
She further encouraged the daily use of the Civil Service Anthem and the Culture Change Song, describing them as unifying symbols of shared identity and purpose within the service.
Accompanying the HCSF was the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Civil Service Matters, Mr. Alfred Abah, who hailed her leadership as visionary and praised her commitment to firsthand assessments of federal workspaces.
Staff at the Katsina Secretariat welcomed the visit with enthusiasm, noting it as a historic and morale-boosting gesture. They expressed gratitude for the attention given to digital innovation and reform implementation and pledged continued support for the EPIC vision.
The retreat and inspection tour continue to underscore the administration’s resolve to modernize the civil service and ensure a culture of performance and accountability.
