
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the appointment of DCP Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).
DCP Placid, a seasoned officer of the Nigeria Police Force, brings decades of experience spanning administration, operations, intelligence, training, and international peacekeeping.
Born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Placid hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, and a Bachelor of Laws from the National Open University of Nigeria.
Joining the Nigeria Police Force in 1996 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, he was commissioned in August 1998. Over the years, he has attended numerous professional and international courses, including the United Nations Peace Operations Specialized Training and UNITAR Senior Leadership and Peacebuilding program in Kenya, earning certifications in police studies, military studies, human rights, gender awareness, and international humanitarian law.
DCP Placid has served in key positions both in Nigeria and abroad, including as Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State and at the Police Staff College, Jos; Chief of Training for the African Union Mission in Sudan; Head of Training for the United Nations Mission in Darfur; Officer-in-Charge of anti-robbery operations in Kaduna State; and Assistant Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom and Kogi States. He has also advised on election security for the African Union and held senior administrative roles at Zone 3 Headquarters in Yola.
A member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Commonwealth Human Rights Trainer, and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Trainer, Placid is a graduate of the Senior Executive Course (SEC 47) at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, where he was inducted as a member of the National Institute (mni) in December 2025.
Married with children, DCP Placid enjoys football, basketball, badminton, table tennis, listening to music, and interacting with people.

The outgoing FPRO, Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, commended the new appointee, wishing him success in his new role at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
