IGP NAMES SP IKWEN NATIONAL COORDINATOR OF ANTI-CULT CAMPAIGN

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of SP Orvenonne Ikwen as the new National Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV).

The move is part of the IGP’s broader vision to strengthen preventive policing and enhance community engagement across Nigeria. POCACOV is a strategic initiative of the Nigeria Police Force aimed at tackling cultism, social vices, and other emerging threats through non-kinetic and intelligence-led approaches.

SP Ikwen, a seasoned police officer, security expert, and development practitioner, brings extensive experience in technology-driven policing, public relations, and behavioural change communication. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science, specialising in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from the University of Calabar, and is a member of the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria (ISMN) and the Institute of Conflict Management & Negotiation Analyst (ICMNA).

In her new role, she is expected to expand POCACOV’s activities across schools, higher institutions, communities, and youth platforms. The focus will include addressing cultism, drug abuse, cyber vulnerabilities, gender-based violence, misinformation, and other social vices using preventive and community-centred approaches.

The IGP urged SP Ikwen to deploy innovative strategies for crime prevention and strengthen collaborations with stakeholders, community leaders, educational institutions, youth groups, and partner organisations that have supported the campaign over the years.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the appointment in a statement on Friday, 22nd November 2025.
