The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has dismissed the outcome of the August 16 bye-elections conducted in Basawa, Zaria Kewaye, and Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, alleging widespread irregularities.
The state party chairman, Sir Edward Percy Masha, in a statement on Sunday, said the exercise was marred by vote buying and intimidation of voters, which he claimed undermined the credibility of the process.
While expressing gratitude to residents who defied the odds to support the PDP, Masha commended party stakeholders for their resilience before, during, and after the polls, adding that their commitment had further consolidated the strength of the party across the state.
The opposition party, however, accused Governor Uba Sani’s administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using what it described as “commando-style tactics” to manipulate the process in favour of APC candidates.
“The desperation of this failed government was glaring in the way security was deployed and voters were harassed. This is a clear affront to democracy,” the statement read in part.
The party vowed to challenge the results through legal and democratic means, insisting that the people of Kaduna deserved a credible electoral process.
