As Nigeria marks the 2025 International Day of the Boy-Child, the Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Olawande Emmanuel Ayodele, has stressed the critical role of mentorship in shaping the nation’s future leaders.
In a keynote address yesterday, Olawande urged parents, educators, community leaders, and policymakers to provide consistent guidance and opportunities that will help boys thrive in today’s complex world.

“Mentorship is not just beneficial; it is essential,” he said. “It equips boys with the life skills and values necessary to become confident and responsible citizens. Without positive role models, many risk losing their way.”

Highlighting the academic and societal challenges boys face, the Minister emphasized the need for intentional support systems. He also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment, aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, to establish nationwide mentorship and leadership programs for boys from all backgrounds.
“Every boy deserves the chance to succeed, regardless of their socio-economic status,” Olawande added. “Together, we can build a stronger Nigeria by investing in mentorship.”
As the nation reflects on this important day, the message is clear: empowering the boy-child through mentorship is a collective duty crucial to Nigeria’s future.
