The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) is set to unveil a dedicated housing initiative for Nigerians living abroad as part of activities marking the 2025 National Diaspora Day celebration.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed that the Diaspora Home and Abroad Platform will be officially launched during the two-day event scheduled for July 25 and 26 at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to her, the platform is aimed at providing safe and accessible housing opportunities for Nigerians in the diaspora, thereby strengthening their connection to the homeland.

“This year’s celebration is more about practical engagement. In 2024 alone, Nigerians in the diaspora remitted over $20 billion. It’s time we move from talk to action and tap into their knowledge, skills, and resources for national development,” Dabiri-Erewa stated.
The 2025 edition, themed ‘Optimising Formidable Diaspora Potentials for National Development and Growth’, is expected to draw over 1,200 in-person participants and thousands more virtually from around the world.
A group of 25 African American visitors is also expected to join the Abuja celebration, highlighting renewed Pan-African ties.
Dabiri-Erewa also highlighted other ongoing efforts by NiDCOM, including the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS), the National Diaspora Policy, and the Diaspora Data Mapping project — all geared toward strengthening structured diaspora engagement.
In addition to the main conference, a Youth Empowerment STEM Summit will be held, bringing together 500 students from 14 schools across Abuja. The summit will focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as tools for national transformation.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Mr. Abiodun Akanbi, confirmed that the STEM event is a key highlight of this year’s programme.
The two-day hybrid event will also feature investment fora, networking sessions, and the National Diaspora Merit Awards, which will recognise exceptional Nigerians making global impact.
