The Ogun State Police Command has intensified enforcement of its ongoing “Operation No Traffic Gridlock,” warning motorists, traders and transport operators against acts responsible for persistent congestion on major roads across the state.
The Command said traffic chaos in Sango Ota and Sagamu has been largely traced to illegal parking, roadside trading, indiscriminate stopping of vehicles, and loading or offloading of passengers on active lanes.
It described such practices, including double parking and the use of roads and walkways for commercial activities, as unacceptable and vowed strict enforcement henceforth.
According to the police, the operation is in full force across Sango Ota, Sagamu, Mowe and Ifo, with traffic personnel deployed to strategic locations to ensure compliance and restore free flow of movement.
Motorists were directed to make use of designated parking spaces only for picking up and dropping off passengers, while traders were warned to confine their activities strictly to approved market areas.
The Command acknowledged ongoing road construction in parts of Sango Ota and Sagamu, noting that while the projects contribute to temporary slow movement, strict adherence to traffic rules would significantly improve flow.
It added that earlier gridlocks in Mowe and Ifo had been cleared and assured that the gains would be sustained.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, ordered full enforcement of the directive, warning that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining order, safety and free movement across the state, urging residents to cooperate with security operatives.
The Police also urged members of the public to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines: 0800 000 9111, 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369, and 0708 497 2994.
