The Olowo of Owo, His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr.) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, on Friday joined the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, and other leading South-West monarchs at a high-level dialogue organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies in Abuja.
The parley, held on November 14, 2025, focused on rallying institutional and cultural support for constitutional amendments seeking to create additional legislative seats for women in the National Assembly and state assemblies in a bid to tackle gender imbalance in Nigeria’s political system.
The session, convened in collaboration with key lawmakers and civic groups, drew considerable attention as prominent traditional rulers from the region signalled strong backing for the reform push.
The Ooni of Ife led the charge for enhanced women’s political participation, describing the initiative as long overdue and essential for building a fairer and more inclusive society.
Also speaking at the forum, the Olowo of Owo reinforced the united stance of South-West royal fathers in favour of broad democratic reforms aimed at improving representation.

Director-General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, applauded the monarchs’ presence, saying their support provides cultural legitimacy and strengthens public confidence in the ongoing legislative efforts.
