ONDO DISBURSES N350M BURSARY TO 11,358 STUDENTS

The Ondo State Government on Tuesday began the disbursement of bursaries and scholarships worth N350 million to no fewer than 11,358 indigent students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The scheme, flagged off in Akure, was described by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as a key intervention aimed at easing financial pressure on students and their sponsors. The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, said the initiative is part of the administration’s commitment to education and human capital development.

“The year 2025 has been a remarkable chapter in our educational journey,” Aiyedatiwa said.
“Through this initiative, we are ensuring that no child of Ondo State is denied education due to financial hardship.”

He added that the disbursement, which covers bursary, scholarships and special financial support, is expected to motivate students to strive for excellence while reducing the burden on parents and guardians. The governor urged beneficiaries to uphold discipline, integrity and hard work, saying his administration is “fully committed to building a robust education system that empowers every student.”

The Administrative Secretary of the State Scholarship Board, Funso Omoniyi, explained that the intervention covers five categories:

Scholarship awards for exceptional students,

Financial assistance for students in the Nigerian Law School,

Support for medical students undergoing clinical studies,

Assistance for physically challenged students, and

Bursary support for other eligible undergraduates.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, noted that the government had recently approved funds for other education-related interventions, including payment of WASSCE registration fees for students in public schools.

The National President of the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), Temitope Alade, commended the governor, urging beneficiaries to be of good behavior in their various institutions.
