Ondo Governorship Tribunal Fixes June 4 for Judgment

The Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure has fixed Wednesday, June 4, 2025, to deliver judgment on petitions challenging the outcome of the November 16, 2024, governorship election.

The three-member panel, led by Justice Benson Ogubu, announced the date after all parties in the petitions adopted their final written addresses during proceedings on Saturday.

The petitioners, including the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Agboola Ajayi, are seeking the nullification of the election. They allege widespread irregularities during the polls and are asking the tribunal to void the Certificate of Return issued to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), citing non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

Apart from the PDP, other parties that filed petitions before the tribunal include the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), each presenting varying grounds for contesting the outcome of the election.

The tribunal is expected to rule on all petitions simultaneously on the scheduled date.
