The Ondo State Government has declared Friday, January 2, 2026, a work-free day for public servants to enable them return to duty posts after the New Year celebrations.
The Head of Service, Pastor Bayo Philip, made the announcement in a statement issued in Akure, noting that the decision was approved by the State Executive Council (SEC).
Philip said official duties would resume fully on Monday, January 5, 2026, with the traditional first workday prayer session across all ministries, departments, and agencies. He urged workers to travel safely and return promptly to their offices, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to their welfare and productivity.
In a related development, the SEC also approved key decisions affecting infrastructure development and traditional leadership in the state.
Briefing journalists after the council’s final meeting for 2025, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Mr. Abiola Olawoye, said the council approved the construction of roads in Sabomi community, Ese-Odo Local Government Area. He described the project as part of the Aiyedatiwa administration’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, open up riverine communities, and enhance residents’ quality of life across the state.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, said the council approved the appointment of His Royal Highness, Owei Kekemeke, as the pioneer Amananawe of Agadgba Obon in Ese-Odo Local Government Area. He added that warrant letters were issued for the appointment of a new Alade Okun of Alade Idanre, Idanre Local Government Area.
