ONDO MOSQUITO NET CARRIERS PROTEST OVER UNPAID WAGES

Scores of women hired as mosquito net carriers for the just-concluded 2025 Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLIN) distribution exercise staged a protest on Wednesday, November 6, 2025, at the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (OSPHCDA), Oke-Eda, over unpaid allowances and alleged illegal deductions.

The protesters, mostly women, stormed the agency’s premises, chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards. They alleged that despite completing their assignment during the distribution across communities in Ondo State, their allowances had not been paid, and ₦50,000 was deducted from the agreed sum.

One of the aggrieved women, who spoke to RootedScope Media, said they felt cheated after fulfilling their responsibilities:

“We worked tirelessly to ensure that mosquito nets were delivered from house to house during the distribution. Yet, our allowances have not been paid, and ₦50,000 was deducted from what we were told we would receive. We are appealing to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to intervene and ensure we are paid.”

A viral video circulating on social media captured the moment the protesters activities at the entrance of the OSPHCDA complex, insisting they would not leave until their demands were met.

Efforts to obtain comments from officials of the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency and Malaria Consortium in Ondo State were unsuccessful, as they were reportedly unavailable at the time of filing this report, leaving the matter unresolved.
