As Ondo State prepares for the inauguration of its Children’s Parliament, the government reaffirms its dedication to inclusive governance and the protection of children’s rights through strategic partnerships.
The internationally recognized child advocacy group, Save the Children, has expanded its impact to Ondo State, reinforcing its commitment to the protection and empowerment of children across Nigeria. While the organization’s 2023 focus was centered on Cross River State, this year, Ondo State has become the spotlight of its advocacy efforts.
In continuation of its mission, Save the Children has engaged stakeholders across the state, including the Ministry of Women Affairs, and has embarked on outreach programs in communities such as Fagbo and Liyetu in Ondo East and Ondo West Local Government Areas. As part of preparations for the Children’s Parliament inauguration scheduled for May 27, the organization conducted screenings for child representatives across the 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State.

According to Mr. Mefun Tudor, Director of Child Affairs, “Two children per Local Government have been successfully screened and will represent their respective LGAs in the upcoming Children’s Parliament.”
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Dr. Seun Osamaye, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Save the Children for its strategic support and partnership. She lauded the organization’s contribution to promoting children’s rights and strengthening child participation in governance through the Parliament initiative.
Dr. Osamaye further reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa-led administration to inclusive governance. “This is a government for all—where every stakeholder, especially children, is given a voice, protected, and empowered,” she said.

She affirmed the Ministry’s readiness to continue collaborating with Save the Children and other stakeholders in advancing the rights and well-being of children across the Sunshine State.
