Ondo State Governor Establishes Inquiry Panel into Ugbo-Ugbonla Communal Conflict

A press statement has been released announcing that Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Governor of Ondo State, has established a six-member Panel of Inquiry to investigate the communal crisis in the Ugbonla community, located in the Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.

This decision follows recent violent clashes within the Ugbo-Ugbonla community, which stemmed from a dispute over traditional leadership and resulted in fatalities and property damage.

The panel, formed by the Governor, is tasked with determining both the underlying and immediate causes of the conflict within the community, as well as identifying the roles played by various individuals and groups involved.

The members of the panel are:

1. Justice Sunday Olorundahunsi – Chairman
2. Justice Orimisan Okorisa – Member
3. Primate Afolabi Aboyewa – Member
4. Hon Hamidu Takuro – Member
5. Barr Yinka Orokoto – Member
6. Mr. Dele Adesanmi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs – Secretary

The panel’s terms of reference include identifying any individuals or groups whose actions or inactions, either directly or indirectly, contributed to or sponsored the crisis. They are also charged with making recommendations to prevent similar crises in the future, along with any other recommendations deemed appropriate based on their findings.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has instructed the panel members to perform their duties with the highest level of dedication, to act impartially, and to conclude their assignment within a six-week timeframe.

Furthermore, the Governor has appealed to the residents of the community to adopt peaceful measures and to offer the necessary cooperation to the panel members as they carry out their responsibilities.

Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan,
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State.
