In a symbolic and spirited event held today, the Torch of Unity for the 2025 National Sports Festival was officially received in Akure by the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, at the instance of Mr. Governor, H.E, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
The National Sports Festival, tagged “Gateway Games”, will take place in Ogun State this May, drawing athletes from across the 36 states and the FCT to compete in various sporting disciplines.
While receiving the torch, the Deputy Governor conveyed the goodwill and full support of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to Team Ondo. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the development of sports and the welfare of athletes representing the Sunshine State.
“For us in Ondo State, sports is not just about competition; it is a strategic tool for social and economic mobility,” the Deputy Governor said. “This is why Mr. Governor has continued to invest in the sector — to ensure our athletes are well-prepared to compete favourably at national and international levels.”
Ondo State remains dedicated to nurturing talent and promoting unity through sports. The Torch of Unity serves as a reminder of the shared values of resilience, excellence, and national cohesion.
