SWDC Board: Aiyedatiwa and Bamidele Reportedly at Odds Over Nominee Replacement

A political rift has reportedly emerged between Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele over the alleged substitution of a nominee to the South West Development Commission (SWDC) board. Governor Aiyedatiwa is said to have nominated Adewinle Martins and former Commissioner Rasak Obe, but Obe’s name was replaced with Olugbenga Olufehinti—allegedly by Bamidele.

This development has caused unrest within Aiyedatiwa’s camp, leading the governor to travel to Abuja to express his displeasure. Supporters view the move as a slight against the governor, worsened by a lack of support from Ondo’s three senators, who are reportedly not aligned with him.

While the APC media director in Ondo denied any rift, affirming both leaders’ commitment to party unity, internal sources suggest deeper political divisions. Critics argue that Aiyedatiwa’s handling of internal party dynamics—particularly with factions loyal to late Governor Akeredolu—may be fueling the conflict.

The presidency recently named Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi (Ekiti) as SWDC Chairman and Charles Akinola (Osun) as Managing Director, alongside several board members from across the South West.
