Ondo State’s youngest commissioner, Hon. Omoyofunmi Segun, officially resumed duty on Wednesday at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development with a firm commitment to inclusive governance and youth empowerment.
Segun, who was accompanied by representatives of key youth organizations—including the Ondo State Youth Network, National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), National Youth Council, Ondo State Scholars Arena, and National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)—was warmly welcomed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Tolu Adeyemi, alongside directors and senior officials.

The reception featured a familiarization tour of the ministry’s departments, after which a brief welcome session was held in the commissioner’s office.
Addressing the staff, Hon. Segun urged the ministry’s workforce to demonstrate diligence, proactiveness, and a sense of responsibility in their duties. He assured them of an all-inclusive administration that prioritizes performance and service delivery.
“I am grateful to the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for giving me the opportunity to serve as a commissioner. Governor Aiyedatiwa is interested in the development of the youth of Ondo State,” Segun stated, charging the staff to remain committed and noting their pivotal role as the engine room of government operations.

Mrs. Adeyemi, in her remarks, thanked the governor for the appointment of a youthful commissioner, expressing optimism about the collaboration that lies ahead and pledging the ministry’s support for Segun’s leadership.
Shortly after his assumption, Hon. Segun joined Governor Aiyedatiwa at a youth skill acquisition programme organized by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth and Job Creation, Hon. Orioye Igbayisemore.

Speaking at the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa said, “I am a listening governor who granted the request of the Ondo State youth who demanded a youthful commissioner.”

Hon. Igbayisemore also lauded the governor’s responsiveness, commending the decision to appoint Hon. Segun as a significant win for the youth constituency in the state.
