PDP Moves to Rebuild: Saraki to Lead Committee for Peaceful NEC, National Convention

In a strategic move aimed at repositioning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stakeholders of the party—both serving and former governors—convened at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge under the aegis of the PDP Governors Forum for what sources described as a decisive and forward-looking meeting.

Speaking after the meeting, former Senate President Bukola Saraki revealed that the gathering focused on addressing current party challenges and shaping the PDP’s trajectory ahead of its upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and national convention.

One of the key resolutions from the meeting was the establishment of a high-powered seven-member committee, tasked with ensuring a rancour-free NEC session slated for May 27th, as well as laying the groundwork for a seamless national convention.

“I’ve been asked to lead this important assignment,” Saraki announced via a post on X (formerly Twitter), expressing confidence in the team’s ability to deliver. “We hope to do our best in delivering on the assignment given to us.”

The committee boasts a blend of seasoned political heavyweights including Governors Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Muftwang (Plateau), and Peter Mba (Enugu), alongside Senators Seriake Dickson and Ibrahim Dankwambo, and former Abia State Governor, Chief Okezie Ikpeazu.

As the PDP gears up for pivotal internal events, political observers are keenly watching how this new committee’s efforts may shape the party’s unity and strategic direction in the months ahead.
