Police Halt Pro-Obi Rally Over Security Concerns

The Kaduna State Police Command has stopped a planned rally by supporters of former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, citing security risks and potential disruption of public order.

In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the police said intelligence reports indicated that the birthday rally — reportedly organized to celebrate Obi — could be hijacked by criminal elements to incite unrest.

The Command reiterated that all political rallies remain suspended across the state until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declares the commencement of political activities.

Police authorities also expressed concern over the timing of the rally, noting it clashes with several party primaries already scheduled for the same day. The parties, according to the statement, had duly notified the police, unlike the organizers of the pro-Obi event. The Command warned that the convergence of political activities could trigger tension and possible violence.
