Ondo Police Reject Ojajuni’s Kidnapping Story, Warn Against Social Media Misinformation

The Ondo State Police Command has categorically denied allegations by Mr. Eniola Ojajuni, a youth leader of the Afenifere group, who claimed he was kidnapped and implicated four traditional rulers in Akoko in collaboration with kidnappers. Ojajuni also accused the police of failing to debrief him after his alleged release.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, described Ojajuni’s account as inconsistent and not reflective of established kidnapping patterns in Ondo State.

“The Command takes all allegations seriously; however, it is crucial to set the record straight,” the statement read. “Contrary to Mr. Ojajuni’s claims, he was neither kidnapped nor held by any known abductors within Ondo State.”

The police explained that investigations were complicated by conflicting testimonies from Ojajuni and close family members, including his wife and brothers, whose accounts differed from his narrative. Despite the uncertainties, the police coordinated with other commands to ensure Ojajuni’s safe return.

Further, the police expressed frustration over Ojajuni’s repeated refusal to respond to official invitations for formal debriefing, an important step that could have clarified unresolved questions about the case.

The statement also questioned the authenticity of a video circulated during the alleged abduction, noting that such behavior is inconsistent with that of known kidnappers in the region. “Intelligence from past cases indicates that kidnappers typically do not possess smartphones nor record videos of their victims,” DSP Olayinka added.

The Ondo Police Command expressed concern about a rising trend of individuals bypassing formal channels to make public allegations via social media, warning that proper investigations cannot be conducted online.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to justice without fear or favor. Anyone found culpable will be held accountable regardless of status,” the statement affirmed.

The Command called on the public to provide credible information on criminal activities to support ongoing security efforts and urged residents to continue their daily activities without fear.
