President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, for the 20th G20 Summit, as well as his onward journey to Luanda, Angola, for the 7th AU-EU Summit, following renewed security concerns in Kebbi and Kwara States.
The President made this decision on Wednesday after receiving reports on the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State. He is awaiting detailed briefings from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as updates from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).
In response to a request from the Governor of Kwara State, President Tinubu has directed the deployment of additional military and police personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area. He also ordered security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the bandits responsible for the attack on the church.
The President reiterated his directive to security agencies to ensure the immediate rescue of the 24 schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi, stressing that the children must be brought home safely.
