President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the final amendments to the 2022 Electoral Act into law, stressing that the changes are aimed at improving electoral processes rather than serving political interests.
In a statement, the president said the amendments were a response to lessons learned from previous election cycles. “After every election, we owe Nigerians an honest assessment of what worked and what must be improved. That is how serious democracies evolve, and our laws must reflect experience,” he said.
According to the President, the revisions are designed to close gaps, strengthen procedures, and provide clearer guidance to election officials and participants. “When citizens walk into a polling unit, they must do so with confidence. When results are declared, they must be trusted. That confidence is built deliberately, not by chance,” he added.
President Tinubu also expressed gratitude to the National Assembly for its cooperation and sense of national responsibility in bringing the amendments to completion. He reiterated his commitment to continually strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

“The work of strengthening our democracy continues, and we shall not relent,” Tinubu said.
