President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Sunday leave Abuja for Ogun State to honour the memory of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, by attending the eighth-day Fidau prayer scheduled to hold in Ijebu-Ode.
The event, which is expected to draw high-profile guests, including state governors, federal lawmakers, captains of industry, royal fathers, and political leaders, will be held at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode.
President Tinubu will join the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and other dignitaries in paying their final respects to the revered monarch, whose passing on July 13 marked the end of an era in Ijebuland.
Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne in 1960, was widely respected as one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning traditional rulers. He was celebrated for his unwavering commitment to the cultural preservation, development, and unity of the Ijebu people, as well as for his outspoken role in national affairs.
His burial took place on July 14, a day after his demise, in a ceremony attended by close family members and selected dignitaries. The forthcoming prayer session is expected to be a larger gathering, reflecting his national stature and the deep respect he commanded in traditional and political circles.
Security has been heightened in and around Ijebu-Ode ahead of the event, with relevant agencies mobilized to ensure a hitch-free ceremony.
The President’s participation underscores the late monarch’s significance and the federal government’s recognition of his lifetime contributions to Nigeria’s socio-political development.
