The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 12 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) as part of its ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing professionalism in the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement issued on Monday by the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission also promoted 16 Deputy Commissioners to Commissioners of Police and elevated 27 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners. One Assistant Commissioner was, however, not promoted due to absence from the exercise.

A total of 145 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were also elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioners. These included both general duty officers and specialists in various fields such as aviation, medicine, pharmacy, laboratory science, physiotherapy, nursing, chaplaincy, and aircraft engineering.
In addition, 29 Superintendents who are specialists in Information Technology, Works, and Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) were promoted to Chief Superintendents of Police, while 38 Deputy Superintendents in specialist roles were elevated to the rank of Superintendent.
The newly promoted AIGs include:
Johnson Oluwole Adenola (CP, Oyo State)

Emmanuel Adegbola Aina (Acting AIG, Intelligence)

The promotion exercise involved rigorous examinations and interviews conducted under the supervision of the Commission’s Standing Committee on Police Matters, chaired by retired Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Taiwo Lakanu.
Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd.), reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to institutionalize promotion examinations as a standard process in the Police Force, in line with global best practices. He emphasized that officers must prepare to meet the new standards or risk being edged out.
