Remi Tinubu Flags Off Distribution of 10,000 Kits to Midwives in South-East

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Monday launched the distribution of 10,000 professional kits to midwives and nurses in the South-East region as part of efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery in the country.

Speaking during the event held in Enugu State, Mrs Tinubu said, “I am delighted to be in Enugu State to officially flag off the distribution of 10,000 professional kits to midwives in the South-East states namely Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo, with Enugu being the chief host today.”

She explained that the initiative is part of her Renewed Hope Initiative, aimed at complementing the Federal Government’s health sector reforms and capacity building for health workers.

“This event is to complement the ongoing Federal Government training exercise for 120,000 frontline health workers nationwide. I have been told that 60,470 workers have already completed their training,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu noted that the kits—consisting of branded scrubs and Crocs—were produced with support from an anonymous international donor.

“The project has been made possible through the generous support of an anonymous global partner, dedicated to improving health outcomes for our citizens,” she added.

According to her, the RHI had already distributed 50,000 kits to the North-Central, North-East, North-West, South-South, and South-West zones.

“Today, we are in Enugu to distribute the remaining 10,000 each of the Crocs and scrubs,” she said.

In addition to the distribution of kits, the First Lady also announced a grant to empower local women traders in the state.

“In the spirit of today’s event, the Renewed Hope Initiative will be presenting an additional grant of N50 million to the First Lady of Enugu State with the sum of N50,000 each to support 1,000 women petty traders in Enugu State to recapitalise their existing businesses,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu further disclosed plans to launch a maternal and child health campaign in the state on Tuesday.

“Tomorrow I’ll be launching the Free to Shine triple elimination campaign for HIV/AIDS, Syphilis and Hepatitis here in Enugu State,” she said.

The campaign, according to her, is designed to prevent mother-to-child transmission and support better health outcomes for mothers and children.

“The RHI recognises that the demands of the health profession require not only skill and compassion but also the right tools and kits to encourage our midwives as they serve others,” she added.

She officially handed over the kits to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency for onward distribution.

“I officially hand over this professional kit comprising 10,000 scrubs and 10,000 pairs of Crocs to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency for onward distribution to our midwives in the South-East Zone,” she stated.
