ROTARY CLUB OF AKURE-METRO TO COMMISSION MODERN SCIENCE LABS IN IMAFON COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL, ONDO STATE

In a bold move to boost science education in Ondo State, the Rotary Club of Akure-Metro, under Rotary International District 9126, Nigeria, will on Monday, June 30, 2025, commission newly renovated and fully furnished Physics and Chemistry laboratories at Imafon Community High School in Akure North Local Government Area.

The commissioning ceremony, billed to commence at 2:00 p.m., will be led by the District Governor, Rotarian Koyede Olowolagba, Esq., and is expected to draw dignitaries, education stakeholders, community leaders, and members of the Rotary family from across the state.

Announcing the development via a Facebook post, the President of the Akure-Metro Club, Dr. Toyin Adeyalo-Ogundare, described the project as “a timely intervention” aimed at igniting students’ interest in science and reinforcing the teaching of STEM subjects in the rural school.

She noted that the fully equipped twin laboratories would not only provide students with hands-on learning opportunities but also help close the long-standing infrastructure gap that has hindered effective science education in the area.

The project is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 – ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education – and Goal 9, which promotes innovation and resilient infrastructure. Rotary’s intervention supports global efforts to provide lifelong learning opportunities and build capacity for sustainable development.

“Rotary has created another magic,” a statement from the club read, underscoring the organisation’s ongoing commitment to impactful and sustainable service.

The event is expected to be a milestone in the academic development of Imafon Community High School, which has struggled for years with inadequate science facilities.
