SARAKI URGES PDP LEADERS TO END COURT BATTLES, FOCUS ON 2027 ELECTIONS

Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has called on leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to bury their differences, respect the Court of Appeal ruling on last year’s national convention, and shift attention to organizing a fresh convention in line with INEC guidelines.

Reacting to Monday’s judgement on the Ibadan-held convention, Saraki said it was time for party leaders to reflect and move past ongoing litigations.

He noted that with the revised INEC timetable, waiting for a Supreme Court verdict could jeopardize the party’s ability to meet deadlines for nominating candidates. “Prolonged uncertainty over the validity of PDP tickets will undermine the aspirations of our members who seek to contest elections,” Saraki said.

The former Senate president emphasized that political parties exist to provide a platform for candidates to serve the people. He urged PDP leaders to prioritize the interests of party members over personal egos, warning that continued litigation would only derail the party.

“Egos may be bruised, but statesmanship demands rising above personal interests for the greater good. Leaders who feel aggrieved should now consider the broader interest of the PDP in the 2027 elections and beyond,” he stated.

Saraki stressed that grassroots members have invested time and resources in the party, aspiring to run for positions from local assemblies to the presidency. He said it would be unfair for party leaders’ disputes to deprive them of the chance to seek electoral mandates.

He urged all stakeholders to adopt a “give-and-take” approach to ensure an inclusive national convention that accommodates all interests and complies with INEC directives. “There is no time for endless bickering and grandstanding. We must let the sleeping dog lie and focus on recovery, stability, and progress,” Saraki concluded.
