SEN. JIMOH IBRAHIM EMERGES FRONTLINE NOMINEE IN TINUBU’S AMBASSADORIAL LIST

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded a fresh list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation, barely days after submitting an initial batch of three names.

In two separate letters addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu urged the upper chamber to give accelerated consideration to 15 career ambassadorial nominees and 17 non-career nominees.

The lists feature 10 women—four among the career nominees and six among the non-career nominees.

Prominent figures on the non-career list include former presidential aide Reno Omokri (Delta), ex-INEC chairman Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, former Enugu State governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Angela Adebayo. Also listed are former Katsina State House of Assembly Speaker Tasiu Musa Maigari, ex-UBEC deputy executive secretary Yakubu N. Gambo, and former Lagos deputy governor Otunba Femi Pedro.

Other nominees in the non-career category include former senator Prof. Nora Ladi Daduut, former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode, former Oyo First Lady Florence Ajimobi, ex-Lagos commissioner Lola Akande, former Adamawa lawmaker Grace Bent, former Abia governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, and former Nigerian ambassador to the Holy See, Paul Oga Adikwu.

The career list comprises Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu (Abia), Yakubu Nyaku Danladi (Taraba), Miamuna Ibrahim Besto (Adamawa), Musa Musa Abubakar (Kebbi), Syndoph Paebi Endoni (Bayelsa), Chima Geoffrey Lioma David (Ebonyi), and Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim (Ogun).

Others include Abimbola Samuel Reuben (Ondo), Yvonne Ehinosen Odumah (Edo), Hamza Mohammed Salau (Niger), Ambassador Shehu Barde (Katsina), Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno (Borno), Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru (Kaduna), Ambassador Olatunji Ahmed Sulu Gambari (Kwara), and Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande (Osun).

The nominees, once confirmed, are expected to be deployed to key diplomatic missions in countries with which Nigeria maintains strategic relations, including China, India, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, the UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Kenya, as well as multilateral posts at the United Nations, UNESCO, and the African Union.

Tinubu had last week transmitted the first batch of three nominees: Ambassador Ayodele Oke (Oyo), Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu (Jigawa), and retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are (Ogun). They are considered for postings to major missions in the United States, United Kingdom, or France.

The President said additional nominations will be forwarded to the Senate in due course.
