The Senate has approved the 2025 Statutory Budget Bill for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for a second reading, with the budget totaling 1.7 trillion naira.
At the commencement of the Wednesday plenary session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read President Tinubu’s request to the Senate, seeking consideration and passage of the proposed budget bill.
The budget proposal allocates over seventy percent, equivalent to 1.2 trillion naira, to capital expenditure.
This financial bill prioritizes the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects and the provision of efficient services for the residents of the FCT.
The bill has now been referred to the Committee on FCT and Area Councils, with instructions to report back within two weeks.
In other proceedings, the Senate confirmed the appointments of five Resident Electoral Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
