SENATE TO HOLD SPECIAL SESSION IN HONOUR OF LATE PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI TODAY, JULY 23

The Senate has announced it will hold a special plenary session on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away recently.

The resolution was reached during Tuesday’s plenary, where lawmakers paid their respects and acknowledged the former president’s contributions to national development.

In a solemn atmosphere, the red chamber also paid tribute to two other prominent Nigerians—Oba Sikiru Adetona, the revered Awujale of Ijebuland, and renowned Kano businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Alhassan Dantata.

Senators described Oba Adetona as a monarch of uncommon courage, whose reign brought development and pride to Ijebuland and the Yoruba race. They also praised Dantata for his legacy of generosity and commitment to the welfare of the less privileged.

A minute of silence was observed in honour of the deceased, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio urging Nigerians to emulate their virtues and service to the nation.

The Senate’s special session for Buhari is expected to feature tributes from current and former lawmakers, government officials, and dignitaries across political divides.
